Program Philosophy

Teaching elements of nature and science for positive learning and personal growth.

Environmental Education

The natural environment at Camp Colley lends itself to experiential learning opportunities for campers to understand the importance of caring for our natural world. We engage youth in knowledge and skill development to ensure they take action in their community to reduce, reuse and recycle waste and create a cleaner environmental footprint.

Activities include structured nature games, environmental and sustainable resource education modules, and practicing food waste management through composting.

Affinity for Nature

Children who grow up in Phoenix are typically most comfortable in their desert neighborhoods, vastly different from the Coconino National Forest thatĀ encompassesĀ Camp Colley.

Nature hikes, stargazing, even sleeping outside in high quality canvas tents puts nature are the forefront of the magic kids experience at Camp Colley.

Confidence and Self-Esteem

Camp Colley helps children build the confidence and self-esteem necessary for them to set and reach life goals. The successes at camp, from a bullseye at archery, overcoming a fear of riding a horse, singing in front of their peers during a skit, and initiating new friendships with peers all contribute to campers’ development of positive self-image.

Camp can be a huge leap of faith for many children. Overcoming these fears and diving headfirst into their adventure at Camp Colley creates a life-long impact.

Leadership Skills

Campers have countless opportunities to build leadership skills critical for long-term success. Intentional program debriefing occurs after each activity, giving campers the opportunity to explore their experiences, share feedback to one another, and challenge themselves and each other to grow and learn.

Whole-camp team building activities, our low-ropes challenge course, and ongoing cabin group competitions instill leadership skills within each of our campers.
