Camp Colley’s Backbone Fire Response

It is with great disappointment that we are postponing the June 21 – June 25 Camp Colley session scheduled to begin Monday due to the Backbone Fire, which is encroaching on Strawberry, Arizona about 30 miles southwest of camp. We have been following the AZ Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Transportation, and Coconino National Forest updates and together with our City of Phoenix partners and onsite staff, have determined that poor air quality and limited road access to Camp Colley due to the Backbone Fire prevents us from providing a safe and enjoyable week at camp.   Weather projections show wind pushing smoke North/Northeast from the fire, currently uncontained at 17,000 acres as of June 19, 2021. This puts Camp Colley on the direct path or where the smoke is most likely to go in the coming days.   The good news is there is currently no threat of fire on camp property. We know how much our children were looking forward to camp and we are inviting them to attend either session 5 (June 28 – July 2) or session 6 (July 5 – July 9), as long as conditions permit these sessions to take place.   We have notified parents and program partners and will ensure this news is handled with care and concern for the disruption it will likely cause families.   We will continue to share more information about the Backbone Fire’s impact on Camp Colley as more information becomes available....

Camp Colley Foundation Golf Classic 2016

Camp Colley Foundation held the 11th annual golf tournament fundraiser at Aguila Golf Course on April 9, 2016. A great group of golfers joined us for a day of perfect weather, delicious food from Little Miss BBQ, golf, and lots of prizes! Thank you for spending your day with us and supporting Camp Colley. Camp Director Jeff Spellman set up a mini camp site at the golf course to make s’mores and remind us why we have this fundraiser: to support underserved youth by sending them to overnight camp at Camp Colley. Camp Colley Foundation provides funding for operations and programming to make Camp Colley outdoor adventure camp accessible to all, regardless of their ability to pay. We are grateful for the generous donations from businesses and individuals that provided 60 raffle prizes to give away! The grand prize, won by Suzanne Barker, was 4 days and 3 nights in a luxury, beach-front condo near Rocky Point, Mexico. Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets- all proceeds go to support Camp Colley. Our wide variety of silent auction items that were up for bid were also donated by generous individuals and businesses. Many volunteers helped make this event successful including the Los Bomberos Fire Fighter organization who helped serve the food, ASU Medallion Scholars, and friends of Camp Colley. Camp Colley Foundation relies on community support to fund Camp Colley. We are so grateful for all the participants in our event- golfers, volunteers, in-kind donors, and sponsors. We want to give a special thank you to our sponsors for making this event possible.
